Bloomit

Privacy Policy

Your photos belong to you. This policy explains, in plain language, what Bloomit keeps, where it is kept, and how to take it back.

Last updated October 4, 2026

At a glance

  • Photos that Bloomit sorts from your library stay on your iPhone. We save a reference to the photo and the gardens it belongs to, not the image.
  • Recognizing text, labels, similar photos, and faces happens on your device. Voice transcription happens on your device.
  • What you choose to save in your account, such as notes, voice memos, and photos you capture or share into Bloomit, is stored privately with our database provider, Supabase.
  • We do not sell your personal information, show ads, or track you across other apps and websites. Bloomit has no third-party analytics SDK.
  • You can export what you have saved and delete your account from Settings at any time.

Who we are

Bloomit is an iPhone app provided by Thought Garden Labs LLC (“Thought Garden Labs,” “we,” “us”), based in New York, USA. We are the company responsible for your information under this policy. You can reach us at privacy@bloomit.net.

This policy covers the Bloomit app for iPhone, its Share extension and Siri Shortcuts, and this website, bloomit.net.

What we collect

Your account

To use Bloomit you create an account with an email address and password. Sign-in is handled by our authentication provider, Supabase; we never see or store your password in readable form. We also keep the first name or display name you give us. Earlier beta versions of Bloomit offered optional age range, gender, city, and state fields; the current app does not ask for them, and any you provided earlier stay with your profile until you edit them or delete your account.

What you save (“Blooms”)

When you save something in Bloomit, we store it in your private account so it is there when you return:

  • Notes and other text you write, titles, and the dates, people, and places you choose to add.
  • Photos and videos you capture or pick to save as a Bloom, voice recordings, and their on-device transcripts. These files are kept in a private storage bucket that only your account can reach.
  • Links, images, and text you send to Bloomit with the Share sheet or the “Bloom it” shortcut, together with the link, page title, and the name of the sending app when iOS provides it. Images shared this way are uploaded to your private storage.
  • Your gardens: their names, icons, colors, order, and which saved items belong to each.

Photos sorted from your library

If you allow access to Photos, Bloomit sorts your photos and screenshots into gardens on your iPhone. For each sorted photo, your account stores only the photo’s on-device identifier (a reference that only your iPhone’s Photos library can resolve), the date it was taken, whether it is a screenshot, and the gardens it was filed into. The image, the text recognized in it, and the labels Bloomit detects are not uploaded. The photo itself stays in your Photos library.

Subscriptions

If you subscribe to Bloomit Plus, Apple processes the payment. We receive subscription status (for example, active, in trial, or expired) through RevenueCat. We never receive your card number or Apple ID password.

Feedback and support

If you email us or use Send feedback in the app, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write.

Optional usage counts

Bloomit can keep simple daily counts on your account: items sorted, Move to… corrections, searches, daily-bloom opens, and app opens. This is off by default and only runs if you turn it on in Settings. The counts are numbers; they never include a photo, a link, or the words in anything you save.

What we do not collect

Bloomit does not use advertising identifiers, does not include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs, does not read your contacts, and does not ask for your precise location.

What stays on your iPhone

  • Sorting. Text recognition, image labels, and visual similarity used to sort your photos run on the device using Apple’s frameworks.
  • Understand my Photos. If you turn it on in Settings, Bloomit builds a private index of your own photos on the device: recognized text, similar photos, and groups of recurring faces that you may choose to name. That index is not uploaded, synced, or sent to anyone, and it is removed when you delete the app or your account.
  • Voice transcription. When you tap Transcribe, Bloomit uses Apple’s on-device speech recognition only. There is no server fallback; your audio is not sent anywhere to be transcribed.
  • Search. Search runs on your iPhone across your notes, recognized words, labels, titles, and sources.
  • Reminders. Rediscovery reminders are scheduled locally by iOS.

Bloomit only reads your Photos library. It never adds, edits, moves, or deletes a photo. Photos shared into your library by other people (such as shared albums and iCloud Shared Library) and your Hidden album are never indexed, and Bloomit does not read location data from photos in your library. iOS presents Photos access as a single read-and-write permission; Bloomit uses only the read part.

Optional AI suggestions

Two features use Anthropic (the maker of Claude) as a service provider. Both go through Bloomit’s own server, so the provider credential is never in the app, and neither saves anything without your say.

Titles and themes for words you save

When you save a Bloom that contains words, the text of that Bloom, its type, categories, and date may be sent to Anthropic to suggest a title, a short summary, tags, and themes. Photos, video, audio, your email address, and your location are not included. If the service is unavailable, Bloomit falls back to suggestions made on your iPhone. You can edit any suggested title.

Describe this photo (off unless you opt in)

When you save a single photo as a Bloom, you can choose to ask for a one-sentence description. It stays off until you tick “I choose to send this prepared copy to Anthropic for one suggestion” for that photo. Bloomit then rebuilds the photo on your iPhone as a smaller JPEG (at most 1,280 pixels and 1.5 MB) with location, camera, and other embedded metadata removed, and sends only that copy for one suggestion. Your original photo, your words, the people you named, and your location are not sent. The result is shown as an unconfirmed suggestion; nothing is saved unless you tap Use suggestion.

We do not use your content to train AI models, and we use Anthropic’s commercial API, under which Anthropic acts as our service provider for these requests.

How we use information

  • To run Bloomit: sign you in, keep and sync what you save, sort it into gardens, and show it back to you.
  • To provide Bloomit Plus and restore purchases.
  • To answer support requests and feedback.
  • To keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
  • To meet legal obligations.

We do not sell or rent personal information, do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and do not use it to profile you for anyone else.

Service providers

We rely on a small number of providers, each limited to the role below.

ProviderRoleWhat it receives
SupabaseAccounts, database, private file storage, and Bloomit’s server functionsYour account and profile, what you save, uploaded media, gardens, photo references, optional usage counts, and feedback
AnthropicOptional title, theme, and photo-description suggestionsThe words of a saved Bloom with its type, categories, and date; a prepared photo copy only when you opt in for that photo
RevenueCatSubscription statusYour Bloomit account ID and your App Store purchase and subscription status. Not your content
AppleApp Store distribution, payments, on-device frameworksPurchase information through the App Store. On-device features such as sorting and speech recognition run on your iPhone
VercelHosting for this websiteStandard web request data, such as IP address and browser type, when you visit bloomit.net

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of our users or others, or as part of a merger or sale of the business, in which case this policy will continue to apply to your information.

iPhone permissions

Bloomit asks for each permission only when you choose the feature that needs it, never at launch.

  • Photos: to sort your library into gardens, to save a photo or video you choose, and for Understand my Photos if you turn it on.
  • Camera and Microphone: to capture a photo, video, or voice memory.
  • Speech recognition: to transcribe a voice memory on your iPhone when you tap Transcribe.
  • Notifications: for rediscovery reminders, which are off until you turn them on.

You can change any of these at any time in the iOS Settings app.

Retention and deletion

We keep your account and what you save for as long as your account exists, so it is there when you come back. If a subscription ends, what you already saved stays readable and exportable.

Deleting your account. In Bloomit, open Settings and choose Delete account. This permanently deletes your saved Blooms, gardens, uploaded photos, videos, and voice recordings, your profile, and your sign-in account. It is a real deletion, not a request queued for later. To confirm the deletion completed, we keep a minimal record (your former account ID, the request status, and timestamps) for up to 30 days. Copies in our providers’ routine backups expire on their regular schedules. If you cannot sign in, email privacy@bloomit.net from the address on your account and we will delete it for you.

Deleting the app removes the on-device index and sorting data from your iPhone. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel an Apple subscription; cancel it in your Apple account settings.

Your choices and rights

  • Leave Describe this photo off, and keep usage counts off.
  • Turn off Auto-sort new photos, or limit or remove Photos access in iOS Settings.
  • Edit or delete any saved item, and rename or remove gardens.
  • Export a plain-text copy of what you have saved from Settings.
  • Delete your account from Settings at any time.

Depending on where you live, including California and the European Economic Area and United Kingdom, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. Email us to make a request; we will respond within the time the law requires and will not treat you differently for exercising your rights. Where the GDPR applies, we process your information to provide the service you asked for (contract), with your consent for opt-in features, and for our legitimate interests in keeping Bloomit secure. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

Bloomit is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). If you believe a child has given us personal information, email privacy@bloomit.net and we will delete it.

Security

Information travels to our providers over encrypted connections. Each account can reach only its own rows and files, enforced by row-level security in the database, and uploaded media sits in a private storage bucket. Provider keys stay on our servers and are never shipped in the app. No system is perfectly secure, and we will notify you as the law requires if a breach affects your information.

Where data is processed

Thought Garden Labs is based in the United States, and our providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers.

This website

bloomit.net does not use cookies, analytics, or advertising tags, and its fonts are served from this site rather than a third party. Our host, Vercel, processes standard request data to deliver the pages and protect them from abuse. If you email us, we use your message only to reply.

Changes

When our practices change, we will update this policy and the date above, and update Bloomit’s App Store privacy details to match. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
